Modern Dance

At Xinmin Primary School, the Modern Dance CCA—also known as the Xinmin Dance Crew (XMDC)—aims to provide students with a fun and dynamic platform to express themselves through movement. The programme nurtures each dancer’s aesthetic potential, while instilling discipline and developing confidence and resilience. It also cultivates a lifelong love for and appreciation of dance.
Dancers are exposed to a variety of dance styles and techniques, including contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. The curriculum is designed to be both challenging and enjoyable, with a focus on developing coordination, flexibility, strength, and a strong sense of rhythm. Through regular training, students acquire essential dance techniques while building perseverance and commitment.
Beyond technical skills, dance serves as a powerful medium for social interaction and personal growth. Students develop a sense of belonging and responsibility to the school and community, while strengthening their discipline and teamwork through collaborative practices.

Developing Collaborators and Leaders
Guided by experienced instructors, dancers are encouraged to explore creativity and self-expression. Through group practices, they learn to collaborate, think on their feet, and co-create choreography, strengthening their ability to work effectively as a team. Open to students from Primary 3 to Primary 6, the CCA also provides opportunities for dancers to take on leadership roles. Students develop responsibility, resilience, and confidence as they guide their peers and contribute to the growth of the team.
Key Programmes
Our dancers actively participate in school, community, and national platforms, including:
- Singapore Youth Festival (SYF)
- School events and outreach programmes
- Recognition Day Concert (annual highlight)
- Performing HeArts Concert (biennial showcase in 2023 and 2025)
These performance opportunities allow students to showcase their learning, build confidence, and bring joy to audiences through their artistry.
At Xinmin Primary School, we believe that dance is an integral part of a well-rounded education. Through the Modern Dance CCA, we are committed to nurturing confident, disciplined, and creative individuals who are able to express themselves and contribute meaningfully to the community.
